Community Server and AdSense opened Pandora's Box?
Okay so the license confusion on Community Server continues. Early this week I wrote about appling SP 2 and discovering some licensing changes as the applied to the Personal Edition. Then yesterday I wrote about implementing AdSense and Community Server. This morning a browsing the site a saw that gjcradle post a comment that you are not allowed to use ads on the personal edition.
Low and behold according to the new license matrix he was right! I don't know if this was always the case, or was add in the last rev. of license changes. Given the stealthiness of other changes I would not be surprised if it was add recently as well.In
the end, I decided it was easier to buy a commercial license. I would hope in the future Telligent was a little more forthcoming with license changes, rather than letting us discover them by accident when we are applying service packs.
I still have a high regard for the technology of Community Server and the abilities of Telligent. But how ever these license changes are being deployed I would ask for at least some announcement to the Community, this as a multi license owner. After it is all about the community.
Note, I will add a notice to my adsense entry indicating it only applies to Commericial Editions of Community Server.
